Two persons die in Kerala after consuming spirit

Two persons died and four others were hospitalised after consuming spirit at AKG Colony, Malayamma, near Chathamangalam here on Saturday.

KOZHIKODE:  Two persons died and four others were hospitalised after consuming spirit at AKG Colony, Malayamma, near Chathamangalam here on Saturday. The deceased are Balan, 54, of AKG Colony and Sandeep, 38, of Chembom Meethal house, Narikkuni.  

Police said the victims were part of a six-member group who had consumed spirit in the colony on Thursday night. Later, they were admitted to various hospitals in the region after they were found unwell.  As their condition worsened, four of them were later shifted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where Balan and Sandeep breathed their last on Saturday morning.  

Police sources said the condition of the other two persons at the Medical College Hospital - Chekkutti and Velayudhan - is also critical.   The police said Balan and his friends had consumed the alcohol kept in a plastic bottle in the colony.  A probe has been launched.
