THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of back-to-back political clashes, the government has decided to convene an all-party meet on August 6 at the state capital.

The decision was taken at a meeting between CPM and BJP-RSS leaders in the presence of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Monday. A decision has also been taken to convene separate bilateral talks at the district level in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam (both on August 1) and Kannur (August 5).

The CPM and the BJP discussed the current political scenario and the recent developments following the murder of an RSS activist in Thiruvananthapuram. "The parties will ask cadre to refrain from violence. Also, efforts will be taken to create awareness among party workers," said CM Pinarayi after the meeting.

BJP state president Kumman Rajasekharan said the party demanded stringent action against the police officials who had failed to take action to curb political violence. "Efforts should be taken to ensure that all political parties are able to function peacefully," he said.
