Express photographer attacked, cameras destroyed after CPM hartal turns violent in Kerala's Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: CPM activists who called for a hartal after bombs were hurled at their district committee office on Friday, turned violent at Palayam near here and assaulted two photographers, including the New Indian Express photographer, A Sanesh.

Around 150 CPM workers who conducted a protest march, pelted stones at the Karnataka Bank, Palayam. They then stopped a moving auto and turned it upside down. Noticing that Sanesh had clicked the incidents, nearly 20 men attacked him and destroyed his camera.

The CPM workers later turned to attack P Abhijith of Madhyamam daily and destroyed his camera’s memory card. They also removed memory card from the camera of Sreejesh K V (Keralabhooshanam daily).

Three more photographers, who were covering the event with Sanesh, clicked pictures of his assault. Meanwhile, CPM district secretary P Mohanan visited A Sanesh and condemned the attack.
