KOCHI: In yet another case of sexual assault of minors in Kerala, the Ernakulam Rural Police on Wednesday arrested a 52-year-old construction worker on charges of abusing two minor sisters aged three and seven.

Unni Thomas, hailing from Kadungalloor near Aluva, allegedly abused the girls , who are his neighbours a month ago when they visited his house.

Though the girls informed their mother, the accused threatened her and she did not go to the police.

However, one of the girls informed her teacher, and the school authorities reported the case to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Following a complaint lodged by CWC, police took the man into custody. He was charged under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police said Unni Thomas will be produced in court soon.

The incident came a day after the arrest of four men for the sexual abuse of two minors, aged 9 and 11, in Palakkad. Both girls committed suicide after the incident.
