Talks fail; medicos strike to continue

The post-graduate students of government medical colleges have decided to continue their strike as talks with the government failed to reach a consensus.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The post-graduate students of government medical colleges have decided to continue their strike as talks with the government failed to reach a consensus on the three-year bond system for super-specialty medicos.

Though an agreement was reached to withdraw the three-year bond and reinstate the present system of one-year cumulative service for PG medicos, consensus could not be reached on the bond system of doctors who go for super-specialty courses.

“Though the demand of three-year bond for PG  medicos has been withdrawn, the government was not ready to discuss the bond system for doctors who go for super specialty courses,” Kerala Medical PG Association president P Jathin said.

The withdrawal of bond system for super-specialty courses was also a major demand along with that of the bond system of the PG medicos, he said.

As part of the agitation, the medicos would stay away from out-patient clinics, wards and operation theatres but would work only in emergency services and ICUs.
