KOLLAM: Barely 24 hours after the Facebook tirade against Congress deputy chief Rahul Gandhi,Youth Congress(YC) state vice president C R Mahesh on Wednesday announced his decision to quit the party.
Even as Mahesh’s sudden move caught the state Congress brass completely by surprise, the young turk said he was taking a sabbatical from politics. According to him, he will now find some other means of livelihood.

“The party has become rotten. I don’t want to remain on this sinking ship. The leadership alone is to blame for the debacle in the recent state elections . With no one taking the initiative to fix the problems, I am tendering my resignation from the party to register my protest,” he said. “Anyway I am bidding good bye to politics temporarily and will find a job to eke out a livelihood. For the time being, I am not interested in joining any other party,” Mahesh told reporters at the Press Club here on Wednesday.

Mahesh’s decision to quit Congress came even as the Youth Congress national leadership ousted him from the organisation for flouting the party discipline. In last year’s Assembly polls, Mahesh was  the only UDF candidate in the district, who managed to put up a tough fight against the LDF rival. He went down to R Ramachandran of the CPI by a margin of just 1,759 votes.
