KANNUR: Faced with mounting public ire over allegations about a female candidate being forced to remover her innerwear prior to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the management of the TISK English Medium School at Kunhimangalam, Payyanur, has suspended four teachers pending inquiry.
It has also formed a committee to look into the allegations. The management said the four teachers--Sheeja, Safeena, Bindu and Shaheena--were among the 24 teaching staff belonging to two schools of the same management appointed as invigilators for the test on Sunday.
They were suspended following talks between the management and DYFI representatives on Tuesday. Student and youth organisations protested demanding action against those responsible for the ‘bizarre incident’.
The candidate hailing from Cheruvathur, Kasargod, alleged she was forced by the officers to remove her innerwear with metal hooks before being allowed into the hall. Several other candidates wearing jeans were also asked to remove the pockets as well as the metal buttons. The students also alleged the officers denied them permission to use the school toilets to change their dress. A team of police officers from Kannur visited the house of the candidate and recorded her statement. The district police chief has also submitted a report to the government.
State to approach Centre
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state govt will take up with the Centre the alleged harassment faced by candidates of the NEET examination due to the strict imposition of dress code by the authorities, CM Pinarayi told the Assembly on Tuesday. The CM was replying to a submission by Ramesh Chennithala.
