11 injured in attack by ‘rabid’ stray dog

At least 11 persons on Sunday were injured at Pathanapuram in Kollam after being bitten by a stray dog suspected to be suffering from rabies.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: At least 11 persons on Sunday were injured at Pathanapuram in Kollam after being bitten by a stray dog suspected to be suffering from rabies. Azeez,63; Shibu, 36; Madhu,54; Shyam sam,23; Mohammed,22; Suresh Babu,40; Shakthi,37; Vasudevan Nair,75; Dolly Thomas,48 ;Vasumathi Amma,60 and Arun Thomas,27 are the injured . Three strays in the locality were also attacked by the canine.  

The victims, who suffered serious injuries in the incident,  have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital(MCH) here and their condition is said  to be stable. Local residents killed the dog before the police arrived there. Attacks by stray dogs have become a major threat to public safety here with a a middle-aged fisherman mauled to death in May this year in the coastal hamlet of Pulluvila as he  lay on the beach.

 Barely a month before the incident, an 85-year-old man was mauled to death by stray dogs at Attingal. In October 2016, a 90-year-old man at Varkala died after he was attacked by dogs when he was sleeping on the verandah of his house.  

A two-year-old child Devanandan suffered injuries after being attacked by a stray dog at his home in September 2016. In August the same year, a woman from Kanjiramkulam in Thiruvananthapuram was killed after she was attacked by a pack of strays.
