KANNUR: CPM district secretary and state committee member P Jayarajan denied reports that he left the state committee meeting of the party held on Saturday in a huff, following criticism raised against him by party colleagues for alleged self-glorification.

"Some sections of the media have reported that I had left the meeting in protest due to the criticism against me. It is not true," he said while speaking to reporters at Kannur on Monday.

Jayarajan, met the reporters following media reports that he left the party state committee meeting held on Saturday at Thiruvananthapuram, fuming against the criticisms levelled against him on the grounds that he tried to portray himself as the sole crusader of the party in the district and projected himself beyond and bigger than the party.

A few state committee members had questioned the propriety of the pamphlets distributed in a meeting portraying him as the lone warrior who fought bravely for the party and also criticised some songs in certain albums which portrayed him as a hero of the district. 'This is individual worship', which cannot be encouraged, they had observed, according to the reports.

"CPM is different from other parties. No one is above the party. Each member of the party is bound to be criticised, irrespective of his stature in the party," P Jayarajan said.

When asked about whether he was being criticised in the meeting, he replied that what transpired in the party meeting cannot be divulged before the media.

"Party has the right to criticise its members. And members should also be ready to make some self-criticisms too. Kannur district committee is a part of the CPM which is a national party. The district committee does not have its own party programme. It executes the policies of the party at the district level," he said.

He also denied his role in making the songs and pamphlets which portrayed him as the lone hero of the party in the district.

"It was the work of the people who made them. They never consulted me before releasing it," P Jayarajan added.
