KOCHI: Divorce rocks the foundation of one’s life. While divorce breaks the hearts and steals the dreams of the people involved, it has opened up new vistas for matrimonial sites.
Kerala tops the list of states with the highest number of matrimonial disputes pending before courts. The stigma attached to the status of divorcee not withstanding, leading matrimonial sites have opened separate segments to cater to the customised needs of the rising clientele.

If an average 452-600 general profiles are registered from Kerala a day, around 32-50 profiles belong to the divorcee section,” said Sudheesh A K, unit manager, NRI section, Community Matrimony.com.Unlike in the past, the people are more vocal in expressing their preferences while selecting partners in this segment, he said.
According to Arjun Ravindran, head of Astro-Vision, a Kochi-based astrology software developer, and director board member of Malayogam matrimony site, there is nothing to wonder in the growth of this segment considering the fact there has been a big spurt in divorce cases in Kerala of late.
Realising the potential of this segment, Shaadi.com, one of the leading matchmaking service providers in the country, has launched an exclusive website for second marriage matrimony, he said.
According to the statistics available, around 19,693 divorce cases were registered in the family courts in Kerala in 2016.
