MALAPPURAM: Tension reigned at Ponnani on Friday after an RSS activist was hacked by an unidentified person at Naripparambu on Friday. Following this, BJP has called a hartal in the Ponnani municipality limits on Saturday. Ennazhiyil Sijith, 28, was admitted to a private hospital at Edappal with injuries on his hands. The Ponnani Police said the incident took place around 3 pm.
“An unidentified person asked Sijith, an autorickshaw driver in Ponnani, to take him to Kuttippuram. When they reached Naripparambu, the passenger asked Sijith to stop. That was when a three-member gang which arrived on a motorcycle, attacked Sijith with weapons,” the police said. The police have registered a case and launched a probe. Last week, another RSS activist was hacked allegedly by CPM activists after two party workers were injured in an alleged attack by RSS activists at Puzhambram.
