Hindu Aikyavedi to protest theft of idol in Vaniyambalam temple

The Wondoor police have registered a theft case in connection with the incident and an investigation is on.

MALAPPURAM: The Hindu Aikyavedi planned a protest on Saturday evening following the alleged desecration of the Banapuram Devi temple at Vaniyamabalam in Kerala.

Unidentified burglars broke into the temple and made off with an idol and a computer printer on Friday. The attackers damaged a number of door locks and even tried break into the sanctum sanctorum.

Nearly 500 Aikyavedi activists, including its state president PV Muraleedharan, will take part in a march from Vaniyambalam Bazaar to Wandoor at 5.30 pm.

The temple committee president Gireesh P said, "This is not a looting attempt. It is an malicious move to instigate religious sentiments. They desecrated the idol and vandalised the temple," he said.

The Wondoor police have registered a theft case in connection with the incident and an investigation is on.
