According to the police, 189 detonators and 100 sacks of ammonium nitrate were kept hidden under sacks of onions in the lorry which was impounded by a police team from Sulthan Bathery police station based on a specific input.  The lorry was on the way from Benguluru to Manjeri in Malappuram district.

“We have launched a detailed probe and verification of the documents are on. The cleaner and driver of the lorry have been taken into custody,” said a police officer. As per the preliminary probe, the consignment was supposed to be handed over to a person hailing from Koduvally in Kozhikode who was to take it to Manjeri.

Following the introduction of GST, police have upped surveillance and checking of vehicles in Muthanga, the check post bordering Karnataka. Earlier, all the vehicles were subjected to sales tax clearance and checking by sales tax team at the check post. “We have strengthened our surveillance and all suspected vehicles are being checked by police personnel,” Rajpal Meena said.
