South India Writers Ensemble begins in Kerala

The fifth edition of South India Writers Ensemble will be held from July 24 to 26 at Charlie’s Pampa Reminiscence in Aarattupuzha on the banks of the Pampa river.

ALAPPUZHA: The fifth edition of South India Writers Ensemble (SIWE) will be held from July 24 to 26 at Charlie’s Pampa Reminiscence in Aarattupuzha on the banks of the Pampa river.

People for Performing Arts and More, an art cum cultural outfit, will organise the three-day annual literary gathering aimed at bringing about an enriching interaction between writers from different languages and regions.

“Every language has its own style of expression,” noted Malayalam writer and director of the festival T R Rajeevan said.  “The objective of SIWE is to explore the power of language and literature through the gathering of writers. Creative writers, journalists, theatre and film personalities will deliberate on tolerance.”   

Kannada writer and director of PAMPA, Kanaka Hama Vishnunath said, “Hindi has been selected as the main language of this year’s ensemble. Related writers and other personalities will take part in it.”

Hindi author Udayan Vajpeyi will inaugurate the festival on July 24. Tamil writer Ambey (C S Lakshmi) and Hindi poet Sudha Arora are also expected to participate in the camp. As part of the programme, various art and cultural programmes will also be arranged.

Abhirami will present Hindustani music and Vineeth Vasudev will perform ‘chakyarkoothu’.
Film director Kamal K M, M B Padmakumar and Anwar Ali are slated to attend a film discussion on July 26 at 10 am.

Tamil poet and novelist Salma will be the chief guest in the valedictory function in the afternoon. Rathi Saxena, Sudha Arora and O S Unnikrishnan will also speak.
