KOLLAM: In a major breakthrough, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged suicide of 10-year-old girl after being sexually abused at Kundara in Kollam, has arrested her grandfather on charges of raping the minor.
During the investigation, the team found the arrested, Victor Daniel, 62, was also involved in the sexual assault of another minor girl in the locality.
As per sources, the significant revelation was made by the victim’s grandmother, mother and elder sister while deposing before the SIT.
The grandmother had told the team the victim as well as her mother had complained to her on multiple occasions that the accused had molested the girl.
“Victor is currently working as the manager of a lodge in Kollam. Earlier, he worked as an assistant to a prominent criminal lawyer,” said an SIT officer.
During questioning we also learnt he had unnatural sex with many others while working at the lodge, the officer said.
Kottarakkara DySP B Krishnakumar told ‘Express’ such sensitive details can’t be divulged as investigation was still in progress.
“We have registered one more case against him. Investigation is being carried out under the direct supervision of Kollam Rural SP S Surendran. As questioning was in progress, revealing more details will affect the probe,” he said.
For the past four days, the police had interrogated five persons, including the mother and grandfather.
It’s said the mother and grandfather had initialy feigned ignorance about the sexual assault. Later, the SIT roped in the service of an expert counsellor.
The police will present the grandfather before the Kollam District and Sessions Court on Monday. It was on January 15 the girl was found hanging from a window of her mother’s house at Nanthirikkal, at Kundara. As per the postmortem report, she was raped on multiple occasions and was sodomised.
