KOCHI: The Popular Rally was flagged off by Hibi Eden MLA at the Marine Drive ground here on Saturday.
As many as 27 cars are taking part in the competition being held in various categories - Open category, INRC 3 category, Esteem category, Gypsy category and FMSCI cup category.

The rally will begin at 6 am on Sunday on the closed roads inside plantations in the Malayattoor and Kalady area. “We will cover a total distance of around 300 km as part of the competition. Of this, around 200 km will be public road where no speed racing will be held. The real racing will take place on the 80-km stretch of closed roads through plantations and estates in Kalady and Malayattoor area,” said Dr Bikku Babu, an Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) driver from Tiruvalla, who is part of the organising team.

After completing the event at the Kalady and Malayattoor closed road stretch, the drivers will return to Marine Drive by evening where the prize distribution ceremony will be held. Several well-known rally drivers from Kerala and other states are taking part in the event.
