KOZHIKODE: Coming down heavily on the Left Democratic Fund (LDF) government for its soft stand in land encroachment allegations against transport minister Thomas Chandy, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday said the United Democratic Fund (UDF) will approach the court against Chandy as the government has failed to initiate an action.

"The stand taken by LDF government in the issue has exposed the political corruption of the government. Those who demanded resignations of K M Mani and K Babu from UDF Ministry, after vigilance court ordered quick verification probe in bar bribery case, have now changed their stand on Thomas Chandy issue. The CPM even ousted E P Jayarajan, who dedicated his life to the party, from the cabinet when there was a complaint of nepotism against him. But in the case of Thomas Chandy, they are not showing any interest to seek his resignation," Chennithala said.

"The government has buried corruption cases and sterilised Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. As the appointment of vigilance director has been put on hold, the Opposition will approach the court seeking direction for a new appointment," he said.

On GAIL pipeline agitation in Mukkom, Chennithala demanded that the government withdraw cases registered against the agitators. "The UDF is not interested in politicising GAIL agitation as it is a people's protest," he said adding that the project was conceived by the UPA government and in Kerala, the execution began when Oommen Chandy was the chief minister.

"We don't possess the political folly to say that the project was wrong," Chennithala added.
