THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In fresh trouble for under-pressure Thomas Chandy, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran stated his party wanted the Transport Minister to quit.

Addressing the party’s state secretariat meeting here on Friday, Kanam said he had asked the CPM to oust Chandy at the earliest. His continuance, despite the slew of evidences of malpractice, was tarnishing the image of the government and the Left Democratic Front, Kanam said.

Chandy should not continue in the post in the wake of the adverse remarks of the High Court and an indicting report by the Alappuzha District Collector. The party has a strong and clear stand on the issue and it has been conveyed to the CPM, he told the secretariat.
Kanam said the issue will be raised at Sunday’s LDF meeting. He hoped Chandy would show the moral courage to tender resignation before it starts.

However, the CPM state secretariat which met on Friday had a different view on the issue. The meeting observed the allegations against Chandy need to be examined. Bilateral talks will be held with the CPI before the LDF meeting.

Advocate General C P Sudhakara Prasad’s legal advice on the issue too was discussed at the meeting. He is learnt to have said one of the options before the government is to wait for the High Court verdict.
It is learnt the CPM will not call for Chandy’s resignation, but act according to the general consensus at the LDF meeting.
