KOCHI: As a prelude to Sabarimala pilgrimage season, Mata Amritanandamayi Math has carried out a cleaning drive at Sannidhanam and pilgrims’ path leading to the temple. It’s the 12th consecutive year the cleaning drive is being carried out by the Math.This year, Amalabharatham, an initiative by the Math, has merged with Union Government’s Swachh Bharat Mission.
Around 1,500 volunteers from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, besides foreigners and students of Amrita University took part. Besides Sannidhanam, the drive covered places including Marakoottam, Appachimedu, Neelimala and Saramkuthi. The waste before it was shifted to the treatment plant near Pampa after segregation. On Sunday, students and women will clean Pampa.
