KOLLAM: Lauding the work done by Mata Amritanandamayi for the welfare of Adivasis, Dalits and other weaker sections of society, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram urged the spiritual leader to continue with her efforts towards their upliftment.“We cannot believe the scale of work done by Mataji for the weaker sections, such as Dalits and Adivasis. I have seen photographs and statues of God. Now, I am seeing a living God in Mata Amritanandamayi,” the Minister said.

Oram was speaking at the 64th birthday celebrations of the spiritual leader at Amritapuri near here on Monday.Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson P J Kurien said love and compassion, for which Mata Amritanandamayi stands, can rid the world of many of its present problems. Kurien added Amritanadamayi’s birthday also reminded people it is not extravagance but service for humanity that should mark such celebrations. 

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Y S Chowdary said the government could take valuable lessons from Amritanandamayi in the way she runs institutions and carries out welfare programmes for the needy. The services rendered by the Amritanandamayi Math transcended caste, colour and creed, he noted.Referring to the Amritanandamayi Math’s programme to provide electricity to remote villages in the country, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Satyapal Singh remarked Amritanandamayi was not only spreading light in the homes of beneficiaries, but also in their minds.
