THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder case of a former radio jockey at Madavoor near Kilimanoor is likely to seek the assistance of Interpol to trace one of the suspected culprits who fled abroad two days after the murder.
The accused, who is suspected to be the kingpin of the four-member gang, has fled to Qatar via Nepal. He is called by the name ‘Alibhai’ and is an NRI who is originally based in Oachira, sources said.
According to the police, they received reports that the remaining three suspects are hiding in Mumbai itself and efforts are on to track them down. Sources also added Alibhai is a notorious criminal who is involved in quotation works.
Rajesh aka Rasikan Rajesh, 36, of Kilimanoor was hacked to death in his studio by a four-member team around 2 am on March 27. Rajesh’s assistant Kuttan was also attacked. However, he escaped from the spot.
Attingal DySP P Anilkumar said talks are on with the superior officers to seek the assistance of Interpol to nab the absconding culprit. “We got confirmation that the man who is called Alibhai is the kingpin of the gang and he fled to Qatar. So, we are trying our best to track him down. In the meantime, we are also checking with Foreigner Regional Registration Offices (FRRO) to collect the travel details of Alibhai to check whether he had come to Kerala from Qatar for the ‘quotation’ work,” Anilkumar said.
Meanwhile, the police are also verifying the whereabouts of an NRI who allegedly gave the quotation work. The police said there are unconfirmed reports Rajesh had a relationship with the NRI’s wife, an Alappuzha native. The call details of Rajesh were also verified by the police, revealing he was in conversation with the woman at the time of the incident.
