THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The maiden meeting of the committee formed to develop minimum standards for modern medicine and to categorise and classify the clinical establishments in the state was convened on Tuesday. The committee constituted by the state government in line with the Kerala Clinical Establishments Act 2018 is for setting standards for various categories of hospitals, both private and government.

According to committee chairman  Dr K V Krishnadas, the meeting has formed an expert committee to set a guideline for improving the quality of clinical establishments and hospitals operating in the state. He also added the committee comprises expert medical practitioners drawn from various streams.
“What we were planning is to make all those clinical establishments register.

A norm will be set for them to function which will not only improve their standards but also ensure quality treatment and patient handling by them. But the norms will not be compulsory in nature. It will be advisory in nature,” said Krishnadas.
