KOCHI: As part of redefining policing through major digital initiatives, including ‘e-policing kiosks’ and vehicle tracking solution, Kerala Police are exploring to avail technical expertise of telecom major Jio. The aim is to have its digital and network services for different projects being implemented by the police.
A dedicated team under the guidance of State Police Chief Loknath Behera and ADGP (State Crime Records Bureau) Tomin J Thachankary is working to introduce the e-projects in a phased manner.

According to top police officers, a team led by Kerala Police Information Technology (IT) wing SP J Jayanath will visit the Jio Experience Centre in Mumbai to hold discussions with top executives of Jio.
Police officers said, apart from the vehicle tracking system, the focus will be on taking forward the “e-policing kiosks” which will go a long way in helping people file petty complaints without having to go to a police station.

The police team will study further about the Jio Eco System and the possibilities of leveraging the expertise of Jio Infocomm in implementing the digital-driven projects. As per the plan, kiosks will be set up at parks, railway stations, airports and other public places where people converge in large numbers. The major objective of the project is to enable citizens easy access to the police network to register their complaints and get police assistance.“We are considering internet-linked touch-screen computers for the public to register a complaint,” an officer said, adding that discussions are on to use the cloud platform rather than servers to store data.
