Thrissur City police to launch 200 Janamaithri youth clubs to tackle local criminals, drug sales

City police officers said youngsters can join the clubs and help the police in monitoring the area under each police station.

THRISSUR: To tackle the local criminals and drug sales, the Thrissur city police is planing to form 200 Janamaithri youth clubs led by respective Janamaithri beat officers under all police stations.

City police officers said youngsters can join the clubs and help the police in monitoring the area under each police station.

“Moreover, such activities will improve the police relationship with the public,” they said. Interested youths can contact their nearest Janamaithri police station or register through the Facebook page of the city police.

The Janamaithri Youth Club project primarily plans to tackle the rising drug sale in rural and coastal regions. The club will also be utilised for evidence collection, providing trauma care, managing crisis situation and curbing criminal activities in the region.

The formation the club by incorporating the complete skills of youngsters will aid the cops in tackling issues which stem from social media, such as the unannounced hartal which was observed in some districts following a call on Whatsapp and other social media platforms.
