KOCHI: A group of Argentina fans from the coastal village of Chellanam has earned international attention after a video showing their love for Lionel Messi was voted the best video in a worldwide contest conducted by the footballer’s official website. The video uploaded by Vipin Maliekal, a vicar of St Sebastian’s Church in Chellanam, featuring a 35-feet high cutout of Messi with fans young and old voicing their support won from among thousands of such clips uploaded with the hashtag #VamosLeo on www.messi.com.
Voting was on from June 18 to 25 and, on Friday, the Chellanam video was announced as the winner. Vipin also received an email confirming the prize - a World Cup ball signed by Messi will be at his doorsteps very soon.
