THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Women’s Commission has registered a suo motu case in connection with issuing ban on Bindu Thankam Kalyani from visiting her rented house and workplace in Kozhikode.
According to Kerala Women’s Commission chairperson MC Josephine, the ‘undeclared’ ban on Bindu was nothing but a blatant violation of human rights.
“The woman reached Erumely based on the SC order. Though she returned due to protests, she was not allowed to visit her rented house by the house owner nor given permission to attend the school she was working. This is not acceptable. The government and law enforcers should take stringent measures against this incident,” Josephine said in a statement.
The commission decided to register a case based on the media reports. The chairperson has sought a report from state police chief Loknath Behera pertaining to the issue. Bindu returned to Kozhikode early on Tuesday. But her house owner told her not to come to the rented house at Chevayoor forcing her to seek refuge at her friend’s apartment. She also had to seek police protection following widespread protests from the residents of apartments too.
