THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP national president Amit Shah is likely to give party membership to prominent people from all walks of life, including former Travancore Dewaswom Board president and AICC member G Raman Nair, during his one-day visit to the state on Saturday.

The function is slated to be held at a private hotel in the state capital and more than 20 people from different walks of life are likely to accept the BJP membership from Shah.

BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai told Express, “I have been saying from day one that several prominent people from all walks of life and political parties will make a beeline to the BJP and this is only the tip of the iceberg. More will follow in the days to come. Apart from Raman Nair, former ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair is also likely to be inducted.”

He said the party is in discussions with leaders from both the fronts and “there will be miracles as some senior leaders have expressed their interest in the proposal that we have given them”.

Highly-placed sources in the BJP said the party leadership is already having discussions with a prominent Left leader and if this materialises, the CPM will be in for a major shock.

The BJP president will land at the new airport in Kannur on Saturday at 10.30 am and will head straight to the inauguration ceremony of the party district committee office in Thalikkavu.

Shah will travel to Thiruvananthapuram by afternoon and will be going to Sivagiri to take part in the ninetieth anniversary (navathy) celebrations at the Mutt.

BJP state leaders told Express they will be briefing Shah about the manner in which the Chief Minister has been insulting devotees in the Sabarimala issue.
