Impossible to drive through the road: Justice Ramachandran

I had the misfortune a day ago to be driven through the Civil Line Road from my home at Palarivattom to Kakkanad.

KOCHI: “I had the misfortune a day ago to be driven through the Civil Line Road from my home at Palarivattom to Kakkanad. The said stretch now defies its name because the potholes - some of them large enough to accommodate vehicles of the size of an autorickshaw - have now taken it completely hostage,” Justice Ramachandran wrote.

“It is impossible to drive through this stretch and I am told that the road has been in this condition for the past six months. I think the attention of this court in this regard is now imperative at least to save lives in future,” he added.

The matter was placed before Justice Surendra Mohan, the judge in charge of public interest litigations, who observed that Justice Ramachandran has highlighted a case having great public importance.
There is public wrath against the poor condition of the road as well as against the apathy of the Public Works Department. When the matter was placed before the Chief Justice, he directed to register a suo motu case.
