KOZHIKODE: The police on Wednesday arrested the relative of a 15-year-old girl in connection with her unnatural death last month. The suspect, Akhil K, from Kadalundi, was arrested on charges of rape, blackmail and abetment of suicide. A team was constituted to probe the death of the girl from Nallur near Feroke on March 23. The girl had set herself on fire at her house.

The police had initially registered a case of unnatural death. But further investigation revealed she was subjected to sexual abuse by the suspect a month before her suicide.“Akhil has confessed to the crime. He filmed the incident and threatened to make it public if she reported it. This may have led her to take the extreme step,” said Feroke Station House Officer Ramesh Kumar A. The case has been amended by including Sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code
and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
