KOCHI: After courting trouble for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration while delivering a speech at a function the other day, senior Congress leader K V Thomas on Saturday came out with an explanation saying that he was misquoted by a section of the media.

Thomas, representing Ernakulam Lok Sabha constituency, in a Facebook post said, “I was misquoted. All I wanted to put across was that Modi with his managerial skills was able to convince people that he was doing a lot of good things while he had actually taken many anti-people decisions.” Thomas also told reporters that he had given proper explanation to the party with regard to his speech.

It was while delivering the speech at the 60th anniversary celebrations of Kerala Management Association here on Friday that Thomas reportedly said “Modi is a good administrator who is able to convince others of his actions.” Thomas further said he could communicate better with the Prime Minister than with his own party leaders.

KPCC seeks explanation

Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has sought an explanation from Thomas for his words of praise on Modi. “Thomas told me that he was misquoted by the media. However, KPCC president M M Hassan has sought an explanation from him. We are waiting for his response,” Chennithala said in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
