Kerala: Watery grave for birthday boy

KASARGOD: A day after birthday celebration, a 12-year-old boy drowned in Shiriya river in Kumbla on Tuesday.

The police identified the boy as Abheesh, son of Vikraman and Anitha of Adukathbayal in Kasargod. He had gone to his mother’s house in Kumbla to celebrate his birthday. He was a class VI student of Government Higher Secondary School, Kukkar, in Bandiyod.

On Tuesday, Abheesh left home with his friends to collect mussels from the river. The police said he slipped and fell into the river. His friends raised an alarm and residents came to the rescue.
Abheesh was fished out of the water and rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
