Dileep back to AMMA: Allegations against K B Ganesh Kumar MLA are baseless, says Kerala Congress B

The district-committee of Kerala Congress (B) said the allegations against K B Ganesh Kumar MLA in connection with Dileep issue are baseless and aimed at maligning his political image.

KOZHIKODE: The district-committee of Kerala Congress (B) said the allegations against K B Ganesh Kumar MLA in connection with Dileep issue are baseless and aimed at maligning his political image.

In a press release issued, Kerala Congress(B) said the decision to remove Actor Dileep from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and now to reinstate him in the body was taken in the general body meeting of the association.

A member of the association alone cannot be held guilty of the association's decisions and actions, it said.

Kerala Congress (B) state general secretary Najeem Palakandi inaugurated the meeting, presided over by party district president P V Naveendran.

Actor and Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) president Mohanlal had on June 30 ruled out any vested interest behind the decision to reinstate actor Dileep in the association.

In the AMMA general body meeting held on June 26, the general consensus was to freeze the suspension of Dileep, Mohanlal said in a statement.

“The AMMA leadership has taken a democratic stand to support the common consensus of its members. Apart from this, the AMMA leadership has no vested interest or favoured stand in the matter,” he stated.

As many as 14 actresses on July 1 had said that they will not join the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) as it lacks any fairness, a week after the members of the association revoked the suspension of actor Dileep, accused of kidnapping an actress.

The 14 active members of the recently-formed Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) took the decision even as superstar Mohanlal, who heads AMMA, said on Saturday that there was no vested interest in taking back Dileep.

The Women in Cinema Collective has been vocal about the issue since the annual general body meeting of AMMA decided to revoke the suspension of Dileep ordered last year, saying it did not follow the guidelines of AMMA.

Earlier, Rima Kallingal, Remya Nambisan and Geetu Mohandas, all of whom are leading lights in the Malayalam film industry, resigned from AMMA.
