THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state cabinet has decided to take over the central public sector undertaking, Instrumentation Ltd, Palakkad, with the takeover being conducted with effect from June 1 after estimating an asset value of Rs 53 crore for the PSU. An agreement will be signed with the Central government soon and the assets of the company will be transferred after registering the company as Instrumentation Ltd Kerala. The public sector Restructuring and Internal Audit Board (RIAB) has been entrusted with the task of completing the formalities.

Instrumentation Limited, better known as IL, is a Government Of India enterprise first set up in Kota, Rajasthan, in 1964 with the objective of attaining self-reliance in the field of control and automation for the process industry. Flow elements, control valve and actuators have been manufactured at the Palakkad plant. The Central government decided to disinvest the company which had been registering profit till 1993, when it failed to come into the growth track.

The Union Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises had earlier maintained that it decided to hand over the company to the state government after failing to find a suitable option to retain it as a Central PSU. The asset of the company was estimated by a committee headed by the chief secretary which gave the clearance for the takeover.

Waste to power in seven districts
The Cabinet has also given consent to set up solid waste processing and disposal plants in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kollam and Malappuram districts with public private participation. The consent was given for plants which aim to produce 5 MW power through the processing of solid waste.

The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation has already identified the land required for the plants. A committee headed by the chief secretary has been formed to prepare a proposal for setting up the centralised waste treatment plants and the project is being implemented as per the suggestion of the committee. The technology suggested for the plant envisages generating electricity without causing any form of pollution and scientifically processing the solid waste. The KSIDC has appointed Delhi-based IRG Systems-South Asia Pvt Ltd as consultant to execute the project.
