New firm to dispense social security pension

The state government will set up a new company exclusively for distribution of social security pension.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The state government will set up a new company exclusively for distribution of social security pension. The company is being formed to avoid delay at various levels in pension distribution.

The state government will provide funds for giving pensions to the company. Currently, administrative proceedings and distribution of welfare pensions are being handled by various welfare fund boards. This has been leading to major delays at different levels in pension distribution. As of now, pensions are being given every three months or during festival seasons. The company is being formed to ensure the pensions, being given as livelihood means, are not delayed. The state government will have 100 pc share in the company. To be formed under the Finance Department, the company will have the Finance Minister as chairman and Finance Secretary as managing director.

Cheriyan Philip mission coordinator

Former KTDC chairman Cheriyan Philip has been appointed as the coordinator of the state government’s four major missions - Haritha Keralam, Aardram, Life and Education Protection Mission. Earlier there were reports that the Left follower could be made CPM’s Rajya Sabha candidate. However, the party later chose senior leader Elamaram Kareem as the candidate.

Other decisions

● Tourism and Culture Secretary Rani George has been given additional charge of Secretary, Cooperation Department.
● P Venugopal to be given full charge of Secretary, I& PRD.
● Kerala Road Fund Board to be entrusted with the task of developing the 53-km-long Kuttyadi-Mattannur Road and the 63.5-km-long Mananthawady-Mattannur Road which are being developed as part of the road connectivity package for Kannur Airport.
●Former national Kabaddi player P K Rajimol to be given appointment in the clerk category, at Kerala State Sports Council. Currently, she’s working as postal warden on a temporary basis. She’s being given the job considering her financial status and a recent injury that she suffered.
● Pay revision for government-approved employees with Food Craft Institute under the Tourism Department.
● As many as 28 posts to be created in the managerial category at Kerala State Financial Enterprises.
● Labour Commission has been given clearance to take an advance of Rs 2.79 crore from contingency fund to provide pay arrears to tea plantation workers.
