THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  An 18-month-old baby passed away following treatment at the district hospital in Nedumangad on Sunday. The incident sparked a protest with people alleging medical negligence. Health Minister Veena George has sought a detailed report on the incident.

Archa, the daughter of Sujith and Sukanya, who were residing in a rented house in Karakulam, had been suffering from fever for five days and was receiving outpatient treatment at the hospital, the Nedumangad police said.

After she experienced breathing trouble, the child was taken to the hospital again on Sunday. Nebulisation treatment was administered, and she was sent home. However, her condition worsened, resulting in her death. Protesters alleged shortcomings in the child’s treatment and also flayed the delay in transferring the body to the mortuary. Though no complaint has been filed, the police have launched a probe into the child’s death. Hospital authorities have refuted allegations of any lapses.
