THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kollam rural district crime branch will probe the cold-blooded murder of young doctor Vandana Das. The probe team will be led by DySP M M Jose, while rural SP M L Sunil Kumar will monitor the proceedings. There were allegations about the FIR lodged by the local police.

The FIR said Sandeep S had attacked the doctor while she was dressing his wounds. However, the eyewitness's account was that Sandeep first attacked his relative and then cops before fatally stabbing Vandana.

Meanwhile, the probe team will seek the custody of Sandeep, who was remanded to Poojappura central prison. Currently, he is lodged in a high-security cell and his mental and physical condition is said to be stable.

The shocking murder took place in the wee hours of Wednesday at Kottarakkara taluk hospital. The accused Sandeep was brought for treatment by the police after they got a distress call from him. Sandeep had claimed that someone was trying to murder him. He had sustained injuries on his legs, which were reportedly sustained during his jump from a runner plantation to the compound of one of his neighbours.

While the doctors and paramedics were attending to his injuries, Sandeep suddenly turned violent and began attacking people around him using a scissor. The cops and those, who had accompanied him to the hospital, had sustained injuries in the attack.

As other doctors ran to safety, Vandana was alone in the room and she could not run. Sandeep allegedly stabbed her several times following which she died later while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
