THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The SSLC examination, the results of which were announced in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday, saw students registering an all-time high success rate of 99.7%. The exam was conducted after a full-fledged academic year and without any reduction in portions, unlike the practice in previous years owing to the Covid pandemic.

The success rate this year was 0.44%  higher than the previous year’s pass percentage of 99.26. Prior to this year’s record, the all-time highest success rate in SSLC exam was registered in 2021 when 99.47% of students passed the exam.

Of the 4,19,128 students who appeared for the exam this year, 4,17,864 became eligible for higher studies, General Education Minister V Sivankutty said while announcing the results. The minister attributed the increased success rate to the hard work of students even though no reduction was made in portions. The number of A+ holders in all subjects this year was 68,604 compared to 44,363 in the previous year.

The minister attributed grace marks for co-curricular activities that were re-introduced this year as one of the reasons for the increase in the number of A+ for all subjects. Of the 1.65 lakh students who had applied, 1.38 lakh were awarded grace marks. With this, 24,422 students were able to score A+ in all subjects.

Among revenue districts, Kannur had the highest success rate of 99.94% and Wayanad the least pass percentage of 98.41. A total of 2,581 schools in the state registered 100% pass. This included 951 government schools, 1,291 aided schools and 439 unaided schools. In 2022, the number of schools that recorded a 100% success rate was 2,134.

Certificates of students who qualified will be available on DigiLocker from the first week of June. Students can submit applications for revaluation, scrutiny, and photocopy of answer scripts online from May 20 to 24. The SAY (Save a Year) exams for regular candidates will be held from June 7 to 14 and the results published by the last week of June. Candidates can register for a maximum of three subjects in the SAY examinations.

Sivankutty said the SSLC examinations in 2024 are likely to begin on March 4 and a final decision on the timetable will be taken after discussions with stakeholders. The minister said a total of 4.65 lakh seats were available for students who passed the SSLC exam in higher secondary, vocational higher secondary, ITIs and Polytechnics. In higher secondary alone, 4.28 lakh seats were made available last year, he added. A total of 3.85 lakh students are expected to take admission in higher secondary course this year, he added.
