TALCHER: The five Central coal trade unions have decided to stick to their all-India strike next month even after Coal India authorities accepted their two main demands at the recently concluded meeting of Joint Bipartite Committee on Coal Industry (JBCCI) at Bhubaneswar.
JBCCI of Coal India Limited consists of all the five major operating trade unions and the representatives of CIL management. It is the highest participative forum of Coal behemoth CIL.
Two of the 19 demands, put forth by these coal trade unions, are five-year wage agreement instead of 10 years and 100 per cent neutralisation of dearness allowance.
‘‘The CIL Chairman accepted these two demands at the meeting held on December 26 at Bhubaneswar,’’ said Surendra Pandey, the general secretary of BMS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Khan Majdoor Sangh, one of the five central trade unions.
On the remaining demands, the JBCCI has decided to again hold a three-day sitting from January 2 in Hyderabad to arrive at a settlement.
He told that only after January 4, the trade unions will decide what would be the next course of action depending on the settlement at the JBCCI meeting.
Earlier this month, these trade unions served a notice on CIL and the coal secretary to go on three-day all-India strike from January 5 unless the CIL accepts their demands.
