PARADIP: Detection of zinc iron screw in an injection bottle has created panic among the patients of Jagatsinghpur district headquarters hospital.

Snehalata Parida of Kulatartang village under Jagatsinghpur police limits was suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting.

She was treated by a medicine specialist of district headquarters hospital who advised her to purchase ‘Trixon S 1500’.

The medicine was bought from Tarini Medical Store on the hospital campus for Rs 105. The nurse who was to inject it on the patient detected one half inch zinc iron screw in the bottle and informed the hospital authorities.

On being advised by the nurse, the man went to the shop to return the injection but the shopkeeper refused to accept it forcing the man to buy another for Snehalata’s treatment.

Sources said that the injection belongs to Lincoln Pharmaceutical Ltd, Gujarat, India.

Snehalata has filed a case with the consumer forum seeking justice and action against the shop keeper for supplying sub-standard medicines and injections.

Chief District Medical Officer Narayan Sahoo said any such incident is yet to be reported to him.

According to sources, some unscrupulous medicine shop keepers have been allegedly supplying substandard medicines and injections to various places in Jagatsinghpur district.

Many traders too are dealing in medicines of duplicate brands and injections putting hundreds of patients at risk.

The raids conducted by the drug inspectors have proved to be a farce as the stores dealing in spurious medicines have been left out, alleged locals.

The allegation finds truth in the Snehalata case.
