A TRIBUTE to the immortal voice of Mukesh in particular, musical extravaganza Saaz Aur Awaaz has emerged as an evening full of refreshing songs of yesteryears in its 12-year-long journey. The event that has been a platform for many debutants showcased renditions by some well-known singers like Devdas, Adyasha Das, Prabodh Chandra, Lopa and so on.

The evening began with Mukesh’s Aaya hai mujhe phir yaad and soon the audience was allowed to immerse in evergreen songs Chalo Sajna, Kasme wade, khat likhde, humsafar mere humsafar, Ajeeb Dastan hai yeh, etc. Housewife Rashmi Mohapatra brilliantly sang Aaja re pardesi giving it an original touch. Adyasha’s voice was described by host Gulshan as a potion with a Geeta Dutt and Shamshad Begum element and rightly so for her rendition of Waqt’s Kaun aaya ke was applauded loudly. Other than these professionals, young students or corporate job holders Suraj Das, Pratyasha, Sonali, with a knack for singing performed wonderfully. Credit is to be given to the musicians which included names like the city’s first English pop singer Lalu bhai, doctor cum guitarist Kiran Kumar, Barada Pattnaik on keyboard, Basant Thyadi on rhythm pad, Rabi on Dholak and the veteran Abani Das. The event was held at Jayadev Bhawan on December 11.
