BHUBANESWAR: HIGHER Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said in the Assembly today that uniform syllabus and same set of questions cannot be introduced for all the autonomous colleges as these institutions conduct examination in semester system by preparing question papers as per the UGC guidelines.

 To a question from Anant Das (BJD), the Minister said that autonomous colleges had been given freedom to have their own syllabus and conduct examinations as per UGC guidelines. Responding to the demand, the Minister said no such decision had so far been taken.

 The Minister said the national education policy had given freedom to the autonomous colleges to determine and prescribe courses of study and syllabi and restructure and redesign the courses to suit local needs. Besides, the autonomous colleges are free to make use of the expertise of university departments and other institutions to frame their curricula, devise methods of teaching, examination and evaluation, he said.

 According to the guidelines, the parent university will accept the methodologies of teaching, examination, evaluation and the course curriculum of its autonomous colleges.
