BHUBANESWAR: Ama Odisha, a socio-cultural and linguistic movement to protect Oriya language and culture, has launched ‘Mo Khata’ (My Notebook) programme to create awareness about the State’s heritage.

The objective of Mo Khata programme is to make the schoolchildren aware of great warriors, freedom fighters, litterateurs, tribal communities and their culture, historical monuments, tourist places, art and culture, sports personalities and modern Orissa, Chairman of the Ama Odisha, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, told mediapersons here today.

The notebooks in 10 categories provide a synopsis on the back cover about the Orissan history, culture and way of life. Attempts are made to inculcate genuine love for the State and its language among the readers by placing most popular Oriya prayers and patriotic songs on the inside page of the back cover.

Ama Odisha, since its inception on July 17, 1996, has been organising competitions on ‘correct Oriya’ writing, quiz on themes related to the State, Oriya handwriting and story-writing throughout the State and in the Oriya-speaking tracts of neighbouring and other states.

The institution organised competitions on ‘Oriya handwriting’ among students of English medium schools and ‘knowledge on Oriya language’ among high school students for the first time in select schools of all the districts today.

Results will be out shortly and successful participants will be awarded by the organisation, Patnaik said.  Litterateurs Prafulla Tripathy and Das Benhur outlined the  activities and action plan of the organisation.
