BALASORE: If the MDM scam is not enough, now currency notes with conch symbol are in circulation. This may put the BJD leaders in more trouble.

Sources said, the conch symbol stamped currency notes were discovered from an ATM counter in Basudevpur market in Bhadrak district. While the bank officials feigned ignorance, people suspected these notes were to be distributed during the last election, but kept in the safe and deposited in the bank recently.

The notes were first spotted by one Raghunath Padhi of Iram village who withdrew Rs.15,000 from the ATM counter of Axis Bank at Manish market yesterday. “I got 28 notes of Rs. 500 denomination and 10 notes of Rs.100 denomination. All the notes were stamped with conch symbol,” said Padhi. He is not the only person to have received these conch symbol embossed notes from this ATM counter in the last few days. An official of the bank said he would check it up with the bank’s currency depositing agency.

Alleging that this is not the handiwork of just one or two persons, locals demanded a probe into the matter. Bhadrak BJD MP Arjun Charan Sethi said his party was in no way connected with the issue. “I have not seen the notes but I am sure it cannot be the work of anyone from our party,” he said.

BJP TEAM VISITS SCHOOLS: A delegation of BJP led by party national secretary Kirit Somaiya today visited two schools in Nilagiri block of Balasore district and collected dal samples.

The 15-member team found insects and foreign particles in the dal that was supplied to the schools. Somaiya told newsmen that the State Government had given poison to the schoolkids instead of noon meals.

“We want criminal cases against all the officers involved in the scam and criminal proceedings against the Chief Minister and other bureaucrats. We will seek the Governor’s sanction to prosecute them,” he said.
