DHENKANAL: Special examinations will be held for students of Kamdhenukote and Kansra villages here that saw two major fire mishaps in the last one week. In Kamdhenukote village under Sadar block, houses of SC community were allegedly torched by the supporters of a defeated sarpanch candidate Pratap Swain a week back. As many as 19 families were rendered homeless in the fire.

 Likewise in Kansar village under Hindol block, a fire mishap in a cracker-making unit on Friday  resulted in death of four persons. About 160 families were rendered homeless with the fire engulfing over 700 houses.

 The 330 students of both the villages, mostly belonging to classes I to VIII, were to appear for their annual examination on Monday.

 Members of child welfare committee, who visited both the villages, had urged the district education officer on Saturday to conduct special examinations for the students and as many of them would not be able to appear for them till normalcy is restored.

 District Education Officer Ranjan Kumar Giri has reportedly agreed to the committee’s suggestion for special examinations for the affected students in both Kamdhenukote and Kansra villages.
