Acting on a PIL filed by one Sarat Kumar Mohanty of Ganjam seeking a direction for CBI inquiry into the functioning of a Keonjhar-based orphanage, a division bench of the Orissa High Court comprising Chief Justice V Gopalagowda and Justice S K Mishra has directed the Principal Secretary, Women and Child Development Department, to treat the writ petition as representation and pass appropriate order and submit a report within two weeks.
The orphanage in question is Manoj Manjari Sishu Bhawan, which runs shelter homes for the children in distress.
Referring to several news items published in different newspapers and visuals in electronic media, it was stated by the petitioner that the orphanage is a Government-aided one and was involved in various kinds of criminal activities.
