Director of State Crime Records Bureau, Odisha, M Akhaya was awarded the President’s Medal on the eve of Independence Day for Distinguished Service.
The 1988 batch IG-rank officer was also awarded President’s Medal for meritorious service in 2004 and the Governor’s Medal for Best Superintendent of Police of the State in 1999.
Akhaya has distinguished himself in his earlier postings as Superintendent of Police of several important districts, including twice in Cuttack district.
He also worked as DIG of Eastern Range, Balasore. For six years he worked in the anti-corruption wing as DIG and IG of Vigilance.
Akhaya also worked as IG (Finance) and IG (Personnel) in Odisha Police Headquarters and took many new initiatives and welfare measures for the State police.
