Khandhmal Police have made elaborate security arrangements to avert any untoward incident on the fourth death anniversary of VHP leader Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati on August 23.

The VHP and Lakshmanananda Saraswati Nyas are organising a protest meeting on Thursday.

As many as 18 platoons of OSAP police have been deployed in the vulnerable areas of the district along with three units of ODRAF in Balliguda, Phulbani and G Udaygiri. In view of the riots that followed the killing of the seer, police in plainclothes have also been stationed to check subversive activities.

Personnel of IRB (Indian Reserve Battalion) are patrolling Balliguda, Kotagarh, Daringbadi and Barakham areas, said the DSP, adding that four platoons of OSAP had been deployed in Phulbani town itself.

Barricades have been erected at the entry and exit points of the district since Tuesday and vehicles are being frisked.
