At least one person died in the wee hours of Thursday and 143 others were taken ill after attending a community feast in Jamjuri village under Naktideul police limits of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased Sama Sahu (60) succumbed in Deogarh district headquarters hospital while four others, identified as Nabaghana Jena (70), Sabita Behera (35), Pabitra Dehury (35) and Antaryami Sahu (45), have been referred to Sambalpur district headquarters hospital from Naktideul PHC after their condition deteriorated.
Reports said the villagers felt uneasy after consuming the food and many among them started vomiting on Wednesday afternoon.
