A labourer, Dillip Mahat (29) of Ramod village of Turekela block, has reportedly been missing from a brick kiln in Andhra Pradesh since April. His mother, Ratne Mahat (50), met Collector Debraj Mishra on August 18 seeking help to find him.

Sources said Dillip, his widowed mother, three brothers and two sisters had migrated to a brick kiln at Kagaj Nagar of Andhra Pradesh in November last year. On April 2, Dillip was reportedly asked by the owner of the brick kiln, Roshan, to accompany him for some work. He has not returned since then.

DLO Pradeep Kumar Bhoi said he is yet to receive a complaint but promised action if the family approaches him. Meanwhile, the family fear that he may have been killed by the brick kiln owner. Dillip’s wife too left for her parental house after the incident. With the sole breadwinner missing, the family is now finding it difficult to make both ends meet.
