CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court on Friday sought a status report from the State Government on the liquor tragedy.
A Division Bench of Chief Justice V Gopalagowda and Justice BN Mohapatra has directed the Government counsel to obtain instructions on the steps taken by the Government and submit the same within the next date of hearing. The Bench also directed the Health secretary to ensure proper treatment of the people affected and monitor the same. The directive came in response to a PIL letter petition filed by advocate Nishikanta Mishra of Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum seeking a CBI probe into the incident. The petitioner has also prayed for adequate compensation to the families which have lost their sole breadwinners to the tragedy.
